I’m planning on building my shop in the near future here. Building is 38x60. I’m using steel fabricated trusses for the roof system. I will be fabricating them myself. I’m choosing these because they are 1/3 of the cost of wood, I get the vaulted clear span I desire, and the visual look I’m after. They are 10’ oc with 2x6 purlins 24” oc. Roofing is 12” standing seam.
The attached rendering is 38x62 with truss 1’ in from the ends. I have now omitted them and went to 60’ deep.
I would really like to insulate the ceiling as soon as I build so I don’t have to worry about it later and have to work around things on the floor and lighting. I just can’t decide what route is best.
Being that is would be hard to traditionally insulate with batt insolation since there is no vertical venting in the roof structure without adding (lots of) strapping would foam be my best option. I have found a good deal on reclaimed 4” rigid foam (r20ish) would filling the cavities with this be a good option? Spray foam looks quite expensive and I’ve head good and bad..
