Are there any hard and fast rules for horizontal wall purlin spacing? Im guessing every 2-3 feet is about right. Im going to have 12 ft walls, bottom 4 feet metal roofing wainscoting, top 8 feet will be fake board and batten with T-111 and furring strips. Ill block vertically every 4 feet to catch the plywood edges. Im trying to put together a take off for the lumber yard on my 28x48 pole.

Horizontal, non-load bearing members in a call "girts".

The main purpose of girts is to make the installation of exterior and interior sheathing and insulation easier.

As previously mentioned, I'd plan for girts based on your expected needs for insulation and sheeting. Mine are about 3 feet and though it is fine for the exterior sheeting, it's going to be a pain if I ever decide to insulate or add interior sheeting. 24" would use more material initially but make future work easier.
