i like my toro recycler mower the best. it is 10 years old and i have had no problems with it . i don't even take great care of it. personally i don't like honda mowers. i think the motor is great but other wise they ****. i was fixing one recently it was only 5 years old and the self propelled transmission was all ready toast. it needed 4 new wheels and 2 of the bolts for the wheels had broke off. thats just my experience with them(mabey i was working on a bad model cause i heard lots of good things about them). i like sears and mtd for the price there a lot cheeper than a toro and i have had good luck with them. if you want a mower that will last for ever look for a used bob cat mower. there what my dad uses at his landscaping business the deck on the bob cat is like a 1/2 inch thick the only down side is there heavy. but they last for ever, unless you have engine problems. my dad has one that was used every day day at work for about 40 years.
hope this helps

I would say get a Toro first second choice a Honda... Honda parts are very expensive. My all time favorite 21" mower is the Toro proline commercial mower with the suzuki two stroke.

You are correct, 1320. I have never used a $1,000 walk behind mower. The O.P. was looking for something less than $500, so there is no need to mention exotic commercial equipment.
I thought you were a Ford guy, and here you are talking up the jap mowers.

So a $1000 commercial mower for $500 is a bad deal.....:headscrat

My son mows 3-4 lawns every weekend, with three of those houses having walkout basements. Anyway, what I've already discovered is that TORO parts are sold virtually everywhere. We've owned our mower (with electric start) for about 7 years now and have only needed to replace the transmission for the rear wheel drive (remember - lots of hills) and also recently replaced the carb with a fully assembled unit ($70) as it was leaking gas. We're religious with the maintenance and do oil changes every other month and a new spark plug once a year. It always starts on the first pull (or turn of the key for my son).
