Putting air compressor outside

I'd like to re-locate our 30 gallon air compressor outside to free up garage space and for noise reduction. I'm in southern OH and am curious what those of you in similar climates have built for enclosures.

Apologies if there are many threads on the topic - the search function isn't giving me much on specifically outdoor enclosures.

If the compressor isn't too large get an outside plastic storage unit and put some vents in it. You just need something to protect the compressor from the weather.

How much "weather" do I need to protect it from? I want to do the same. I want to make lean to using the garage as the back and add two side. Will this suffice ? I just want to keep the weather off the top where the motor and pump is correct?

Yes a lean too works fine. Just remembered to drain the tank. I have work with numerous shop that do just that. The ones that enclose the compressor tend to have heat issues.

Since you are in Ohio and it freezes there, or so I hear, you will need to install some kind of heating system for the oil. You can get a "pad" type heater to stick on the crankcase. You also need to make sure and drain the condensate out of the tank and air lines because it will freeze which might cause other problems.

I live in southeastern Ohio and have my oldest compressor in a non-heated concrete block back room of the garage. I don't have any oil heater and I blow the tank down once a week, if I think about it. It's been in there for 67 years and no troubles, yet. I feel the same as Ducksface, I hate the sound of a compressor running. That reminds me, it's due for it's 10 year oil change.

Mine also sits outside, had one in the basement at one time when I got the new one parked is outside, great move on my part. I guess you could change the oil every 10 years, some folks drive tires until they are bald, are these two good ideas, I'll think about it and get back. For me spring time oil change, cheap insurance.

Would this work ok with a oil less compressor. My wife bought it for me years ago works great for what I use it for just could use the room. I was thinking in one of those plastic outdoor storage cabinets

We have a few threads on this and almost everyone speaks towards pouring a pad. In my case, it will need to set on the deck - issues?

Worked at a body shop years ago that had a large horizontal in a metal yard shed with gravel floor and a magnetic heater for winter. Mainly just for overnight. Generated enough of its own heat running during the day
