I wanted to put up some rabbit cages along the north wall of my garage. I've got hardy planks running lengthwise back there.

I bought some old old fiberglass corrugated panels at a yard sale and will overlap two of them to form the roof over the rabbit cages. The cages I've got currently I have hanging with wire which works pretty well.

The ones I've got now have couple tin roof panels over em that I repurposed. They don't meet up against the wall and the rain off the garage roof falls between em and makes a mess of the droppings and such below the cages.

I think the panels should go all the way against the wall. I'm wondering if I need to put something against the hardy board to keep the water from splashing against the wall? I realize this is a beginner question but I'm just not aware of the proper way to do it.

If this turns into a long term hobby I'll try and have a lean-to built off that side of the garage but for now I'm just looking for inexpensive.

If you have Hardi running horizontal , I would get some L flashing and run it up under the hardi and run your roof panels up under the flashing. This will keep the rain water from running behind the roofing material and down behind your cages. If the Hardi was face nailed you probably wont be able to get much flashing up under it.

Splash shouldn't hurt the Hardi any.

I had rabbits for years as a kid. They where in long cages with screen floors to the poop and peee could get out. Hinged tops too. After I got older we started butchering them. My Dad was so old school - he'd hold them up by their ears and skin them in a few minutes flat. We always told my sisters it was chciken!!

Thanks for the thoughts on the flashing. Will do.

That's what we've referred to it as so far is chicken. I was just gonna try New Zealands but we were buying a cage one day and my wife wanted a mini-lop they had for sale. So we've got that too. My son who is 2 calls him Moe.

The cages are all wire and have doors on one side. Right now I've got one triple and one double cage hanging under the tin roof but the roof is not quite wide enough. So if it rains it pours into the feed of one cage.

I tried building a wirecage but you can't buy the 14g wire anywhere locally. Mail-order only. The 20g stuff that is the right size for floors is much too weak. So it's much better (cheaper) to just find someone selling older cages and then work with that.

Cool tractor trbomax!!!
