PVC or Drywall???

Hello!

My family and I are changing some walls in our old downtown house. This is a very rainy place, so we are considering weather resistant materials.

The thing is, we have a really big bedroom upstairs, like 200 square feet, with old plywood walls. We are looking to change them, someone suggested PVC walls, buy I am concerned with heat and humidity. Is PVC a good material in a hot and humid place?

Based on the best option, we may use the same material for our garage walls.
BTW, the house has wooden frames.

Well PVC is used to bring water to a house and often takes dirty water away from a house so I would say you are good to go.

But I would personally use drywall.

I don't know too much about Costa Rica but would imagine that it's very humid. Maybe consider a drywall that would be water resistant and mildew proof.

PVC sheets for bedroom walls? I would think it would look like commercial or industrial construction. Not very inviting or cozy and sound would bounce off the walls.

Cement board? Can even get it with a wood grain texture

There is available a type of drywall that is used in bathrooms where moisture is present. Here in California it's called "green board" and will also act as a fire deterrent.
You also have the option of using Hardy Board, the type of material used in bathrooms, kitchens, etc. for ceramic tile underlayment, because it is water resistant.

PVC would be a poor choice from a fire resistance and hazardous fumes standpoint.

I would not use pvc inside. When it burns I believe it is a cyanide producer.

Sorry, I have been travelling for a while.

Mostly, they use drywall. It's like the preferred choice, and any other materials are expensive too. However, there are new plastic materials that have much less chemicals, are recycled and have some other new features, different from traditional PVC. I think we will go for these for the exterior of the bedroom (its on a second floor), and inside we will keep searching... We want to avoid the hassle of taping and everything else, since it is an old house and my parents are living there right now.
