PVC or Pex residential fire sprinkler systems

This is why I wouldn't want a residential sprinkler system in my home. The water damage from the sprinkler system can be as bad or worse than the fire damage.

Unless someone gets hurt in a fire. It’s like saying I don’t want airbags in my car because they are expensive to replace.

None of these statements are absolute, but there are several things to consider.

Keep in mind, your AHJ writes laws/ordinances or adopts something already "out there."

NFPA is guidelines and suggestions.

Usually if a sprinkler pops during a fire the structure is probably a total loss without a sprinkler system.

No clue on the freezing. I suppose you could drain the system out on days your paranoid not that you should.

Plenty of fires contained to a room and not a total loss.

I'd look into the pex combined systems if allowed. It feels like there's a lot of advantages vs separate potable and sprinkler systems. Since the pipes will be in the conditioned space, it sounds like you've got the freeze aspect covered. Plus, with a combined system, your typical water usage will keep fresh / warmer water flowing through the fire protection system.

Finally, in the event of activation, fresh water is less of a mess than stagnant water.

Looks like ServPro to the rescue. How would I know? I have a ServPro franchise across the street from a property I own and the franchises have to use the franchise green colored equipment. Often their trash blows across the street. One time picking up their trash, there were pages from the catalog that the franchises order their equipment and supplies from. They seem to be really big into branding everything they use. Between buying the individual franchises and all the branded equipment and supplies, seems like a pretty good racket for the parent company.

Yup. Branded equipment is the best way to tell a business owner... "We're professionals! You think any jabroni could do this?!?".
