PVC trim- what glue?

I have only a few pvc door casings that need the miters glued together. Do I have to buy the $22 bottle of pvc glue or does anything else work as well?

I’m sure PL premium would do it but it’s thicker than I’d like to use for finished miter joints.

Will super glue type glues be permanent?

Can I use PVC pipe glue?

The white PVC cement made for vinyl fence repair is the correct stuff. It's closely related to PVC pipe cement, but is a little different in that it is thicker bodied (extra heavy PVC pipe cement is almost as thick), and comes with more of the primer chemical built in.

Rather than buying a $22 bottle, have you looked around the fencing aisle for the $7 tube?

I have no issues with clear pvc pipe glue and clear primer. I did test pieces and it always broke outside the glue joint.

Conventional plumbing cement works, but clear primer is hard to find here, and regular PVC cement leaves a kind of foamy joint that's not all that strong as a **** joint. The clear liquid I usually see on shelves is "cleaner", which is useful too, but isn't primer, and if you skip the primer step, the joint may not be all that strong.

Yeah, that’s the stuff I’m trying to avoid buying. Haha. I only need to glue 2 joints and that stuff is like $25.

Use PVC specific glue, it "melts" the PVC at the joint and can be very strong. The other method would be to weld it using PVC welding rod and a special welding tool, Harbor Freight has them but I personally use a Seelye Welder.

PVC pipe cement works but it is a pain to use because it is so thin. For door trim I wouldn't bother w/ cement. You don't glue wood trim miter joints together. Nail them up just like wood and finish the mitre joint w/ your usual caulk.

You do if you care how that miter looks seasonally, And you certainly do when you pre-assemble casing.

I watched a bunch of youtube vids before doing my house trim. They all used a product that I could not find. Its the same name as the trim sold by my local hardware/lumber store but they did not have the glue. So I went with the below and as i was using **** joints i used exterior pocket screws where able. If i was doing mitered door trim i would do the same but with bisquits of some type.
Honestly i was using 12+ foot lenghts and no amount of glue will stop that size from moving enough to break a glue joint.
