Quality Control went out the Window?

These two Penens wrenches make me wonder what happened? The half inch wrench looks pretty much okay for the market it was intended for, the 7/16 is very ugly, giant box end casting, etc. hoping you resident experts can explain this.

The usual reason for adding material to wrench designs is a change to weaker material. Some bean counter decides to save money, while not realizing that it will require more material to do the same job. Robert McNamara was a prime example of this mentality.

Place I used to dread working at used thousands of self drilling/self tapping screws. Purchasing decided to buy the cheaper ones, in bulk.

Suddenly 7 out of ten screws would shear the heads off when driven in. Thousands of dollars of screws and labor thrown away trying to save a couple of hundred bucks...
