I’m looking for recommendations for good quick release air fitting and garden hose fittings. I have been using the typical Home Depot/Lowes quick release fittings on my air hoses and tools, and my garden hoses. They all leak a little and the garden hose fittings soon fail to even function properly. They are pretty much just junk. Thanks in advance for any and all recommendations.

For air the Prevost safety fittings are awesome. They are easy to connect and have a push button release that is two stage. press the button once and it first releases the pressure and then it releases the male fitting. It will never shoot the tool off and will does not take a lot of force to operate.

For water Gilmore brass quick connects seem to work well for me.

For water there are a couple great usa made brass fittings out there. Look for Dramm, nyssist or "world's best". All three have great quick connects and hose nozzles, maybe all the same. My dramm has been running for a few years without issue. The only other thing I would recommend is a ball valve shutoff at the hose end. That makes changeover a lot less messy.

Air hose fitting: Parker Hannefin (I use the RF series High Flow). I get mine at Zoro Tool when they have their 20-25% off sales

Ace hardware sells a solid brass set that is very good. I cannot find it on line but is available in the stores. The only wear part is a "O" ring that is available. The set comes with male and female and extra sets for about $20. It also includes an end of hose shut off valve. These are much better than the zinc or plastic that Northern carries. I have several sets and had no problems other than one handle screw backed out. Try them you will like them.

I like Milton air couplers. Type V are high flow and the female couplers will also accept the more common Type M male inserts.

You can find a pretty good assortment of Milton at Northern Tool if you have one nearby or they are readily available online.

On the water couplings...

I've never seen any that DONT restrict the flow dramatically. 3/4" hoses, but throttled down to little 3/8" central orifices.....

Any of them come close to full flows? This is water not air...

They all end up with smaller orifices due to the quick connect but I don't see how it would do anything. 99% of the time I've got a hose sprayer that would restrict the flow anyways.

The Eley couplings I linked too above have a full 3/4" flow rate.

For air line quick disconnect I have had good luck with Milton. The cheaper Asian made stuff at HF and other places don't work as well and can be difficult to connect or disconnect too easy. I can't comment on garden hose quick disconnects as I have never used them.

Indeed, thanks.

They also change the '***' if the ends- the female end of the hose becomes the male coupling .... The male end of the hose gets a larger female quick connect. Interesting design, preserves the ID by adding the mechanics to the OD...

I use the Harbor Freight brass quick connects. They are full flow, because they have no shutoff built in. So behind the quick connect, I put a ball valve on the hose.

I used to use brass quick connects that shut off the water too, but not only did I have the issue of flow restriction, I also had the issue that my wife and children did not always have the strength to push the coupler together against the water pressure. And then there was the inevitable spritz each time you decoupled it. I've also had them jam up.

With a ball valve, I can shut the water and mate the connector without fighting any pressure, and use the attachment to release the pressure so there is no leak when decoupling.

I know it’s been months but I finally got around to replacing my water and air hose couplers and wanted to report back. I ended up going with the Eley garden hose quick connect system and the Milton “M” style (red) air hose couplers. I have been extremely pleased with both they work well and don't leak which is what I was looking for. I appreciate everyone’s input on this thread. Thanks.

I only have one quick connect for the garden hoses. It's on my Gardenia #1979 lawn sprinkler and you are forced to use it. It's plastic, a proprietary design and the sprinkler does not have a regular female hose adapter. It's odd that such a great sprinkler would have such a flaw. Admittedly, all of Gardena's stuff uses the same quick connectors. My main lawn sprinkler is a vintage National Walking sprinkler that drags the hose along behind it and the Gardena connector will not stand up to that.
