Well the wife is asking for holiday gift ideas for me. I was thinking lately of getting a hot glue gun. I thought I would tell her to get me a hot glue gun. I don't know what brand to get as with a lot of other things there are a ton of brands to choose from. Do you have a hot glue gun? Are you happy with it? What brand is it? Thank you in advance for your replies.

I have a surebonder pro2 220, and love it. Got it from the amazon warehouse deals at a significant discount though...

You didn't state what you will be doing with it. If occasional work then basic cheap ones will do. If you do a lot then spend the money. I just need to use it occasionally so I bought a high temp medium sized one from wal mart. So far I have not been able to overcome it. Long ago I found a cheap low temp one at the second hand store. So high temp for most work and low temp when dealing with delicate things like cloth. Wm has a bit larger one that is dual temp and would do you well. Again, unless you are doing a lot and I mean a lot of gluing, you don't need the expensive stuff.

Avoid the low temp guns unless you need one for a specific purpose. The low temp glue can come undone on a hot day.

The large cartridge (about 2-1/2" diameter) guns are awkward for anything but high volume work. Standard cartridge (about 3/4" diameter) guns are easier to use most of the time.

Most commonly seen sticks are now dual temp. But still hold in high heat. I would guess you might need special high heat glue for special circumstances.

Agree on the Arrow TR550, served me well for 25 years. Put at least 100 sticks through it in those years. The 3M ones are aimed at industrial applications, and priced accordingly.

The battery powered ones look tempting, but replacing the battery can be pricey.

I've got an Arrow dual temp that has served me well for a few years now.

Out of curiosity I thought of Master Appliance (heat guns) but found a couple interesting glue guns, though they are all butane powered it would appear.

Looks like you can also buy different tips for the gun as well.

I have seen that the heat guns are now plastic and not metal as the ones I have seen in person, but what hasn't?
