I'm looking for a quality hub/axle puller. Something that won't break the bank but preferably something that won't explode on me when I try to separate a really stuck axle.

I see several made by OTC (7208A, 7394) with a huge price difference.

What application and what's your budget. You can get a like new snap-on from ebay for around $200. Can't get much better quality. Or you can buy the HF for $50. How much are you going to use it. If you're a pro get something good. If it's once every couple years, get the cheap version.

Might use it once a month, might use it twice a day. It will make me money so spending a few extra bucks isn't a bad idea.

Any particular Snap on that you're seeing?

If this is for a shop, Hub Grappler. The set is enormous and it works very well.

I just looked up those part numbers you listed and realised you are talking about hub pullers for an old tapered axle

I have both of those that you listed.

The first one (7208a) I got as part of the OTC slide hammer. I really don't think it would work on a really old taper axle that was in forever. I believe it is mostly for removing the front wheel drive hubs on new cars with a slide hammer.

The second one I bought at a flea market for around $50. (Mine is an old made in USA one of another brand) These pullers are what you need to pull an old tapered axle that has been on for years. I've been really happy with every tool that I ever bought from OTC so I imagine it will hold up just like the old ones.

What are you working on that you need to pull tapered axles on a regular basis? My 1953 Willys jeep has them or I wouldn't have the second puller.

If you are doing newer cars, I would reccomend the hub grappler. I cobbled one together using the $125 OTC hub grappler upgrade Kit along with the HF Hub bearing puller. I did have to make the small hub pulle plate I my lathe, since none of the bearing plates were small enough. They worked great together I my home garage, but if I was in a pro shop I would probably spend the money for the Full OTC version.
