I'm looking to add a 22' x 16' lean-to off the back of my garage. The outer edge of the slab was poured to accomodate this load. I don't want the cheap **** carports most outlets sell with the ground level square tubing ties between uprights and 26g sheathing. My intention is to attach the lean-to to the garage wall with the outer uprights anchored to the slab using L brackets. Any suggestions as to where to look would be appreciated.

When you poured the slab, did you pre-install any anchor type devices so your upright supports would have anything to attach to?

If not, you will need something with a base plate, probably 4 anchors per plate and then use something like a Hilti Kwik anchor bolt. Some have adhesive. Talk w/ a Hilti rep once you know your specifics and they can recommend the proper bolt specifics. Hilti stuff will probably be more pricey than Brand X, but their stuff is good and you are dealing with a small quantity.

In regards to your steel frame, talk with local steel shops and tell them what you are wanting. We recently did an elaborate 1,200'+ pedestrian bridge and received quotes from a few fab shops to fab and erect the structure for us. The metal roofing used was a high end product as well and had to be curved. Our steel fabricator also coordinated that for us, as we had our hands full building the bridge structure below that all this went on and didn't want to mess with any of it. My point being, as a homeowner, I would talk directly with a roofing company and save the 5-10% (maybe more on residential) the steel fabricator will charge to handle it for you.

No pre-anchor was done not knowing what I would be installing. The edge is 12"D x 16"W with wire reinforcement. Drilling for anchor points is easy enough though. I'll look into the local steel construction and suppliers for a possibly source.

You are adding load to the posts in the wall and need to consider it.

Yes. This the end wall, not the roof edge bearing wall. The lean-to will be attached to the 16" banded engineered beam, between the first and second floor, with about a 4/12 pitch. We don't normally get heavy snow so loads in SE Va shouldn't be an issue. At worst, I could accept vertical supports against the garage wall.

Great, glad you considered it. Everyone fusses on the outer the corners and the connections,,, all good and important and usually overbuilt by the diy anyway.
