I'm looking for a quality folding pocket knife. A friend at work has a Kershaw and it's nice but he's already broken the tip off. I'm an industrial mechanic.

Given what I've said, if the consensus is that I'd be better off with a pocket folding razor knife then let me know that also, thanks.

I daily carry a Kershaw Onion, mostly because of it's compact size, and although I havent broken the tip off of yet, it doesnt seem like it would take much to damage it, (the tip). Its sort of babied as far as knife duties, mostly just opening boxes, cutting tape, etc.

I used to carry my Gerber MP600 and a Sheffield folding razor.

I just carry the Gerber now...

Oddly enough, I use the serrated blade the most.

I carry a kershaw scallion 1620. Nice size, reasonably priced, and spring assist. It's a handy knife but wouldn't be much for pry bar duty. If you want tough find an old buck folding hunter.

Broke tip sounds like he used it as a prybar.

If your gonna use and misuse a knife as a do all tool get a clone as stated above. Use it and abuse it and then get another.

I have given up on high dollar edc knives and a sharp knife it's usually sharp enough but not what it should be

On occasion my pocket knife has taken the role of almost an tool in the tool box brass bolsters make great hammers so I try to keep cost down in the $20-30 dollar range use it for a while and get a new one

However I have one that I just can't kill is my case ** mid folding hunter its not the style I normally carry but has a pocket clip and liner lock it has held up great and for around $60 it's not terribly priced

I carried a Klein 1550-2, 2 blade pocket knife. It has the spear point and screwdriver blade. Very handy when doing electrical work. Cutting insulation, other soft materials, small wire, and accessing panels. It's light. Also, I kept it in a belt pouch to keep from losing it and for comfort.

Check out the Milwaukee's.. Great bang for the buck. The utility knife is the best on the market IMO. they just released a compact version too..

Edit.. Just to add.. I went though about a dozen utility knifes until I settled on the Milwaukee.. Then I went to the fastback knives.. Ultimately I wound up with a leatherman. First the wave, now the surge.. The leatherman by far is your best option if you just want to carry one thing..

For years I carried a Case stockman. It always seemed to do what I needed. Before the stockman, I carried many different types and brands of knives. One day I was in Cabelas Clearance Cave and saw a Benchmade Volli. I really thought it would be too big to carry, but I had never had a Benchmade before, so I bought it. After getting used to the size, it has become the best daily carry knife I have ever had. I don't think I could carry a smaller knife again. I think I paid about 60-65 for it.

I carry a Kershaw 1776, US Made, and a SOG Flash 2. Both excellent knifes. The kershaw has been awesome, used it to pry, cut rubber hose and countless other stuff. When I loose or break it I will be buying another.

I don't remember the model number, but when I worked in theater I carried a Gerber with the side lock for 15yrs. When I gave that up and became a shipper, I started carrying a Sheffield folding razor.

Benchmade knives are the best option in my book. They are a good value too when you realize the quality of the knife. I've carried many Benchmades but right now it's the Mini Griptilian.

You didn't note your age, but if you're younger than 70 get a modern one-hand opening knife like a Benchmade, Kershaw/Zero Tolerance, or Spyderco (my most carried brand). Or maybe find the recently discontinued Buck Vantage Pro with the S30 blade. All good durable choices.

It is pretty hard to beat a US made Buck knife. Choose one in your size range, then pick your steel of choice. Lastly use it as a knife!

I have carried a Byrd Crow by Spiderco for about 8 years. It is their budget line, made in China, but made very well. $35 or $40.

I think my next knife will be a Spyderco Tenacious.

This will sound out of the box but have you considered a Leatherman Wave?

I have carried a Wave, Charge, or Surge every day for almost 2 years now. I'm amazed at how often i need it. It goes in my pocket before my cell phone and wallet does.

The knifes are fine, use the serrated one for a pry if needed, or buy a charge with a harder blade.

Leatherman's lifetime warranty is incredible, they won't cover prying breakage but you can find the knives online anyways for cheaper than shipping.

I beat the living smurf out of mine, even carry them in Salt Water. dd9a78b120464dfb96c2690c001cc84e.jpg

I have been a daily Leatherman carrier for close to 20 years. I don't think I could make it thru a day without it. What I really like about it is that I don't have to put it in my pocket. It comes with a sheath that I put on my belt. It is in my opinion the most useful and best built multi-tool on the market.

As far as a folding knife, I'm just not a fan of the "new" style military-esque knives. I like Buck, old timer and uncle henry. All fairly inexpensive, good quality and I believe all made in the USA.

I've carried one of these for many years and it has been the best knife I've ever owned. I finally broke the first one after about 10 years of use and abuse. It sharpens well and the tip holds up fairly well as long as you don't use it as a screwdriver. I had a spare one that I finally put to use and I lost it after a few weeks. It is called an SOG access card 2.0. You can get them cheaper than this link but this was the best photo I saw.

I also have a Snap On Kershaw that was a tool box back up knife. It had a broken tip but Snap On sent it to Kershaw and replaced the blade. You can send it there yourself for about $7. It looks like this one but blue and says Snap On

I like the SOG better because of the size. It fits in your pocket better. I remove the money clip part. But they are both nice knives. SOG has a new one I might try if I can find a deal called the Cash Card that looks like an updated version of my old one.

UPDATE:

I just realized the Cash Card is a chinese blade and the Access card is VG10 Japanese steel which I find sharpens a lot better. JMO.

My preferred knife is a Leatherman Juice S2 - it has all the right tools available and folds about the size of an old pocket knife.

If you really want a heavy knife to carry then the Milwaukee fastback is cheap, about $15 and heavy, durable, and feels great in your hand. I've had one for a couple of years and they are great knives.

There are a lot of good choices. I have a nice SO Kershaw Leek but it's almost too nice, so I don't carry it much. Leatherman wingman would win the most carried, as it has a clip for your pocket and is very convenient.

Zero Tolerance. I have three, and I've beaten the hell out of them daily for 6-7 years and haven't damaged a single one. I work in a semi-industrial job and use them to cut wiring, insulation, cardboard, tubing, as screwdrivers to open panels, everything. They can be a bit expensive, but nowhere near the mid-techs and customs, or even semi-customs like Sebenzas, etc.
