My 20 year old, storage cabinet for screw, nail, misc. part organizer has about had it. I bought a 22 drawer from (I know...) Menard's that is a piece of **** !
There's no dividers between the drawers, so when you pull one out, others beside it falls out. Plus, it's so weak that if the cabinet isn't square, the drawers bind. The plastic is very thin & CHEAP !

I did see a company that there's are made out of metal, but there really expensive.

Here's a "Stack On" on ebay for a pic that shows the type I'm speaking about.

I don't know yet, if I'll leave on the work bench or mount it on a wall.

Please let me know of any that are high quality without mega $$$

I have had good luck with Stack-On products. Made in the USA as well. :)

I would say your best bet is to find an old metal one on craigs, There's a bunch around here, maybe there's a bunch by you?

Re: Quality screw/nails cabinet organizer's

I have quite a few of the Stack-on boxes, and they work pretty well. They come in a bunch of different drawer and size options, and have kept my bits and parts sorted and separated.

That being said however I am looking to eventually change to some sort of cabinet on wheels that closes up, holds more than the collection of boxes I have and is easier to access than the individual drawers. I troll Craigslist regularly but hope someone posts up a compromise between cost and functionality.

What John in Oh said. I have about twenty of them. Just remember every cabinet will be a compromise. Some items will not fit. I find the organizer cabinets best for small amounts and I am working on a system for when I want to purchase in five pound boxes, etc. They are great for small machine screws, not so great for wood screws.

How much storage do you need ?

I have some of those like you linked for a few things. I also have some pull out boxes to hold 1-2, 5 lb boxes of nails & screws under the workbench. For the larger fasteners, I have built a storage under my other workbench with small bins to hold nuts/bolts.

I'm using an old library card catalog drawer system.Thick oak drawers, built in adjustable dividers, and a spot for labels. The bonus with these is nobody is using old card system anymore so they pop up all the time in various size and configurations. Mine is just a simple 32 drawer benchtop unit.

I don't put my 5lb boxes of screws, bolts, or nails in them though. Those stay in the cabinet in their original (if I can) containers. Sort of on topic, anyone know where to get "real" tin coffee cans these days?

New unused clean paint cans at your local hardware store are cheap alternatives to the old classic coffee can with the bonus that some come with handles that the coffee cans never had. :)

As for organizers, it's a delicate dance. If they are deep enough to hold stuff, they eat up a lot of bench space. If you wall mount them, they take up space of pegboard or similar space.

Personally, I love carts. Everything I have is on casters. I can literally roll out the garage into the driveway in large sections to make cleaning and reorganizing very easily. For bins of draws as mentioned, I might be tempted to make a hardware cart. Some metal base with casters, possibly an open bottom shelf to hold paint cans of loose nuts and bolts/misc, but then a platform above that about 20" up to stack the drawer bins on top of each other. A rear frame out of metal to tie all the bins to would make it a nice little cart. If you're really clever, you could make it double sided so you could pull it out from the wall to access the lesser used side.

As John mentioned, I looked up AKRO-MILS website and they have a lot, of different storage solutions. I will probably mount these on the wall above my work bench and usd mainly as small parts bin. I have kitchen cabinets and some Sears cabinets for bulky storage. So, most of the nails, screws & hardware etc....are in the cabinets, but as you all know, we need many JUNK drawers and small bins for everything else ! lol
