Good info, thanks

If you're only needing metric dies, these on eBay seem like a good deal. USA made, complete, new old stock and has all the different thread pitches fr each size and includes 5mm which Kastar does not.

Wow, that's a smoking deal, and a fantastic looking wooden box!

I just dug through my old emails and found my original order confirmation. I paid $34 (plus tax and shipping) for the ONE die (size 3/4-16), back in 2015.

I have a line on a full set (SAE and Metric) of Four Star dies. May get them next week (fingers crossed), will post an update if/when that happens.

In my opinion they are worth every penny. I tend to ****** up the end of a stud or thread more than I do the middle. With these you stretch them apart put them behind the damage and run it off with a socket or wrench. My snap-on thread chaser set is used mostly for cleaning gunked up threads now.

The suspense is killing me, as is the USPS...

Per the tracking system, my die sets came from down south, stopped in my state (MA), then took a nice little overnight vacation to NH, and are back at the first stop in MA (middle of the state, not near me). I'd probably have them already if they put them on the right truck on Sunday (instead of going to NH). No wonder they constantly need our tax money to stay in business...

I quit using usps whenever possible after an item I bought played plinko around the southern states for 2 weeks. It originated in Illinois, went to Michigan back to Illinois then on to Louisiana then Texas, then to another stop in Texas, back to Louisiana, Georgia for 2 stops, then Florida (my home state), it wouldn’t have been a problem but every stop took a day or so. Longest delivery I have ever seen for a 3lb package.

Wasn't my choice (seller selected the service), I just wanted it to be free. It is nuts, though.

At least it's being tracked. I ordered a Christmas gift for my wife last year, it vanished (said it was out for delivery in a different state and stayed like that for weeks). I contacted the seller of that item, he said just be patient, that's just the USPS doing its thing. He was right, the package eventually showed up, a week or two after Christmas.

I've only ever had one item completely dissappear, that came from CA via UPS (the brown trucks). The eBay seller shipped me a new item and had to file a claim with UPS for the lost item.

Wow, where have I been? I've never heard of Jawco.

I do have a Cman set that I got a good deal on some years back. I also scored a complete set of Four-Star on Offerup for like $40 a couple of years back. I drove across town like a mad man trying to ****** those up before someone else did. The lady didn't even know what they were for. I'm clueless about gov't contracts, so I often wonder how these end up in people's garages?

Not sure, but I have seen tool boxes on government auction sites that were loaded with tools, so that's one potential way someone would acquire them.

The split dies are very nice but for sake of convenience I suggest looking at the Craftsman/Kastar/Snap-On set (all the same) as they include both chaser taps and dies in Metric, SAE in fine and course in one case.
To get that same equivalent coverage in a Four Star/Murray set (if they offer it) you would be spending way more for it. I'm not even sure if Murray offer chase taps?

PS> USPS has been great for me, yes there's been delays but I expect improvements coming up. I just had a nightmare experience with FedEx, expensive 2 day shipping became a two week lost journey with zero love from fedex customer service. So they're all pretty much having issues.

Anyone else here order a set of these dies?

I ordered a set and they arrived today. They are no where near as nice as what was depicted in their listing. I sent the following note to them to see what they would like to do about it. I will edit this post when I get their response.

Hey there!

I received my package today and have to say, it was packaged with the utmost in care. Very impressive!

All was great and I was ready to come back in my office and order the other set of SAE that I want UNTIL.... I opened the wood box. I wasn't really dissuade by the condition of the wood box that they arrived in BUT the set inside the box is far from being in "Excellent Condition" as described in the text of your listing. More of the dies have rust on them than don't which is far from the condition of those in the picture you displayed for the lot I purchased. That picture you posted depicted zero visible rust on the dies. I'm not good at downloading pictures but I can text some of what was delivered to me for reference. Please advise how you would like to proceed with this situation.

I would still like to purchase the SAE set if you can assure me they will be as nice as the set depicted in your picture.

Reply from EBay seller:

I am very sorry can you use with a discount?

My response:

WOW! Your up and at it early this AM on the west coast. Thanks for your prompt reply. I just went out to the shop and looked at them again. There are only six of the smallest dies that don't have rust on them and the largest are heavily pitted and real ugly. The wood case is pretty rough as well. So to answer your question, no, They aren't something worth having in my shop. If you can assure me that you can send me product as nice as your pictures in both metric and SAE, I would like to purchase them. Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks,

Edit #2

Seller gave me a full refund! I would not hesitate to do business with them.

My note back to him this AM.....

Thank you for stepping up and taking care of this. Very impressive!

As I wrote yesterday, I still would like to purchase these and a set of the SAE.....

Wow, I almost bought that set, and really
liked the wooden box (minus the spray paint) but found a better price on a newer set (plastic box) before pulling the trigger. Hopefully the seller makes it up to you.

They probably sprayed over the "US GOVT PROPERTY" I'd bet.

I've got the Lang rethreading set. They've even warrantied one of the taps I broke (my fault).

I wouldn’t be concerned with the rust if the threads look good.
