Hi Guys
I am new to the site and this is my first post. I have been roaming through this site for a few weeks now reading some informative threads and seeing some great pictures. This site sure gets you pumped and wanting to work in and on your garage.
I currently have a little one car attached garage that works fine for what I currently need. I am hoping to build a detached garage in the future so I can tackle bigger projects and this site is giving me great ideas for my planning stage.
I have been picking up different tools and work equipment over the years and hope to move the whole outfit to the new garage when its finally completed (it’s getting tight in that little garage). I figure I can buy quality stuff get it paid for and have it ready to go when the time comes.
Anyway, my next buy is going to be a good tool chest and I have seen a couple of threads on the subject concerning this topic. I hope I’m not beating a dead horse on this subject, but I would like to see some pics of your tool chests and hear some reviews on the product you have. What chest do you think is the best? ---(and don’t say Pam Anderson):pimpflash

Thanks Guys, looking forward to your thoughts, and happy to be posting my first thread.

Honestly, it's all about price. No doubt the truck brands are the "best" (especially for professional wrenchers), but the Harbor Freight are awesome for the price as well. Craftsman's mid level and up are good too.

If I were you, I'd look around the various stores to get prices and to personally inspect build quality. Some like HF, some only want Snap On. I'm happy with my Craftsman ball-bearing 26" stuff, though my original Quiet Glide set works well too.

Depends on if you want to go new or used. I have mostly Snap on boxes but I also have a Nice top box that is made by Waterloo. Its a tough box with 6 drawers, also have a older box made by S&K, love that box too.

I keep a lot of my Machinist measuring tools in my Kennedy top box.

If buying new, a buddy of mine just bought a nice setup from Costco. Stainless top and bottom boxes, heavy duty casters and I believe all the drawers have rollers on the slides.

I don't recall the price but he is like me in wanting the best bang for the buck. Might check out Costco if looking for new, go big name brand if looking for used.

Mm

A professional mechanic needs a lot better quality tool chest than a home hobbyist.
Assess your level of need and buy accordingly. Buying to impress people might just fail you when people aren't impressed.

I picked up a stainless upper and lower box from Costco years ago. It was made by "Hammerhead" and was a bargain for the qulaity, weight capacity, etc.

Over the years Costsco has been carrying CSPS and Torin which are not even close to the build quality of the Hammerhead.

Keep your eyes open at Costco, they might pick up a new tool box vendor.

Figure out what you need and make your decision on what you can afford and have room for. It's ok to start small and grow into a bigger box.
