Quartz crack repair

Developed a crack in our quartz countertop…not sure how it happened …it’s very thin and shallow.I googled repair ideas of course and it seems that people are using superglue to seal the crack ??? Anyone have any better suggestions? I was thinking of a epoxy tile repair kit…just don’t want to make it worse at this point .

Find a stone tool supplier. Buy some quartz epoxy and mix up bits of quartz dust if you can. Otherwise get the tint to match and tint the epoxy. Clean then mask the crack. Apply epoxy peel tape when dry. Scrape top/extra with fresh razor blade. Done.

Depending on how tight the crack is. And if there are chips, epoxy injection might be the way to go.

This is an extra reason to call a countertop company. Unless you can identify the cause of the crack and fix it, the crack will just come back and/or get worse. A professional should be able to resolve the instability and make it look like new.

How old is the top? Maybe contact the installer

Did you install it? If you did apply the epoxy method as long as the floor/ cabinet did not settle.

It’s less than 6 years old… I have no idea how it happened but it’s about 6inches long and very shallow….

This is an extra reason to call a countertop company. Unless you can identify the cause of the crack and fix it, the crack will just come back and/or get worse. A professional should be able to resolve the instability and make it look like new.

We had the crushed quartz tops done in our old house. Ended up with a chip in the middle of one of the tops. Guy came out with a tackle box and a bag of permanent markers with every color imaginable. I scoffed and he said if I can see the repair he will replace the top. I have a keen eye and the repair vanished, guy was a wizard.

The fix will be epoxy of some flavor. I'll agree that understanding what caused the crack is important to possibly prevent future cracking.

Heat will crack quartz. That's one reason why real granite is better for kitchen counter tops. That, and the fact that it's less expensive.

My neighbor got quartz in their kitchen. His wife wanted it.

We took the free granite and spent the 3k upgrade cost elsewhere

Every time they are at our house HE says "man I wish we had just gone with the free granite, our quartz chips so easily"...

Many people confuse the two. Quarts is much more porous and Stan’s easily. Quartzite is man made and much more durable.

I learned this the hard way. We thought our tops were granite (bought with the house). They are not.

I had a sous vide machine running in a tri-ply pot at about 160f. All of a sudden it sounded like a shot went off in our kitchen. Cracked right in the corner where the counter wraps around.

The crack closed back up when it cooled down and hasn't grown, but I was pretty upset when it happened.
