Question about a Bell and Gossett Recirculating Pump

I just replaced a B&G series 100 pump at my parents house. I had to turn the pump 90 degrees from the factory position. I used a new gasket per the instructions and it is leaking. I pulled it out and installed a new gasket and it leaks. Does anyone have any experience with these?

I have had quite a few a part, never had an issue. Get a new gasket and try again. take a good look at the leaking gasket and see if you can see an issue.

leaking at the same place? make sure the mating surfaces aren't dinged and lay flat on each other

It's hard to tell where the leak is. The water is coming out of the weep hole like the seal in the pump is bad. I did check all of the mating surfaces and everything was clean. I installed the gasket dry. Does it need some sort of sealant?

I haven't had 1 of those apart in a long time,could it be a seal on the shaft itself that is leaking?
I'd call the pace you got it from and ask them about a replacement.

Weep hole? Shaft seal. Put a bucket under it and run it for a few days. It might quit.

Are you sure you got all the old gasket out? Check the mating surfaces closely, maybe a small crack. Look in the threaded hole to make sure there's no hole going thru to the waterside. If there is, wrap the screw with a few wraps of Teflon tape. Get a tube of RTV sealant/gasket maker at the auto parts store and run a small bead on the mating surfaces along with the gasket.

I did use sealant, Red Permatex when I changed the orientation the first time and it leaked. When I installed the second gasket, I installed it dry. I guess I got a bad new unit. I'll be calling Grainger on Monday. Thanks for the responses.

Pump mate up without a lot of problems? Should go into housing without a problem. If you replace the seal se some liquild dish soap when assembling the seal. On the shaft, rubber and ceramic surface just as a lube. Just so when pump first starts surfaces aren't dry. Soap washes away in a second. Do not start pump without water in system.

Try to double up on your gaskets, years ago I had to do that on my headers cause it keep leaking. Yea I know water and exhaust is different but worth a try.

If the pump was run dry, even for only a minute or two, that may have destroyed the seal. Please don't ask how I would know.

I just finished installing the replacement pump. After examining the gasket, I determined that the pump seal was bad from the factory. The new pump doesn't leak at all. Thanks again for all of the replies!

X2. I just replaced bearing assemblies on six B&G Series 100 pumps at work. Four were leaking, two were seized. I previously replaced two of the same bearings in 2021. All but one of the new ones were slightly leaking at the weephole after a few days and have since stopped. All the bearing assemblies were OEM B&G, pump seal surfaces clean and flat, fasteners torqued properly. Never had an issue with B&G 100s before this in the past 35 years.
