Question about adding an outlet in the garage (tapping into interior room)

Hello-

I wanted to add One single outlet in my garage. Instead of running conduit all the way from an opposite wall I wanted to tap into an existing outlet.

The wall that I want to put this outlet on has an outlet from another room (bathroom)

The bathroom itself is on its own circuit. Its 15 amp and it only has one outlet and the vanity light on it so I know that wont be an issue.

Actually I know what I want to do isnt an issue but is it code?

Can a circuit run power to two different rooms.

I want this to be code

***after thinking about it I think I answered my own question. It probably isnt code for safety reasons. If I turn off the breaker for the garage (or someone else does it) it would be dangerous in that you might think the power is off on all the outlets in that room. When in actual fact they arent. Am I correct?

not sure, but i seem to remember something about bathroom receptacles not sharing circuits with other stuff.

In any event, if you do it make sure you dont break any rules pertaining to the fire rated wall between the garage and house.

By Canadian rules as long as your garage already has its one code mandated receptacle circuit,it would interpreted as permissable, but many would frown upon it.

Didn't they, several years ago, always feed the outdoor receptacle from the bathroom GFI? Wouldn't that be the same type of thing?

Maybe code has changed and they don't do that anymore?

thanks guys.

looks like i will have to go another route.

i like to play it by the books.

i know its a simple little project but i just sorta roll that way.

is it just the bathroom that has this code? i have access to another outlet that i could use in the dining room. can i use that one?

thanks again

Not concering code but a 15A circuit in a garage is limiting, I would want a 20 and if I had to go back to the panel I would be tempted to use a 12/3 and run 2 circuits.

My garage is on a 20 amp circuit. I just want one extra outlet on another wall.

Thats where the bathroom or dining room came into play.

They are both on seperate 15 amp circuits. And I know Im hardly using any power in those two rooms, so bringing one more outlet from them isnt an issue.

I was just concerned about code.

thanks
