Hello from Louisiana.
I need some advice on building a metal storage building. I have a 4 inch thick concrete slab, 18'x21' and want to buy the materials needed to build the metal frame. I want the walls to be 8 ft high. The building could be a little smaller than 18x21...

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Check with some of the metal building suppliers found in the back of garden magazines or Popular Science or Popular Mechanics magazines.

There are metal storage building kits available at the Home Box stores but I do not recommend them. Usually a stick built wood building is better.

A slab is a good start. You will have to sawcut sections out of the slab for the building column footings (typically 18" to 24" square and 12 to 18" deep. Is this just a backyard storage shed on the cheap or do you want it to be standing after the next hurricane? Is the concrete slab in decent shape?

The slab was just poured about 3 weeks ago so it's in great shape. It's only 4 inches thick. Is that sufficient? This is a second home near a river. A great place for hunting and fishing. The home is a single wide mobile home. We want it to be sturdy, but not outshine the primary residence. We're not on the coast, so that helps also.

How far apart do we place the posts?
