Im a new member. Today my old impact gun finally broke today. Im ready to buy a Ingersoll Rand 2235timax. Im not interested in other guns. My problem is, I called my tool guy, he told me $379. That price fits in with other reputable retailers online. But if I do a google search, there are many for sale new starting at $250. My way of thinking because im old enough to know how many crooks are out there, is that if its too good to be true, it usually is. How could anyone be $130 cheaper? Are there counterfit impact guns? If you dont believe me, just google 2235timax and look at shopping results. The ones from ebay seem good (sellers have great feedback numbers), and arent from China. One is Tennessee, the other is North Carolina. If I need to I can just pick a 2135 instead. It is an older model, but my previous one worked great for years. I can find one for cheaper, around $200, and it isnt like I was ever left wishing for more power. Most shops I have ever worked at have always had their compressors regulated to higher than the 90 they recommend. Most times I hear someone talking about how they run 90 psi, it is usually a do it yourselfer. No shop I have ever seen uses only 90, no wonder they cant break bolts loose. My shop I work at now is set to 140 psi. My snap on dealer told me guns are getting too powerful, because techs are breaking torque sticks frequently. Please anyone advise me about these impacts, deal or no deal?

20 plus years ago I bought a Snap-On 5500. It was very expensive and I have never regretted that purchase. I was using that gun to make a living. I have often thought that paying a high price for quality anything, that works, somehow just fades into the fabric of life. Paying too little for something inferior that does not work well will haunt me for forever.
I do not know what MAC TOOLS are doing in 2017, but when I was still working MAC were selling some high quality impacts that were made in Japan. I have two of these Japan MAC 3/8" impacts. One is a butter-fly and the other is a gun style.

I have no actual experience with this, BUT - Question - is ur tool guy, a "tool truck"? Wouldn't everything be marked up?

Remember that with tool trucks you are paying for the convience of them coming to you weekly and making payments on items. Snappy and Mac both sell good impacts. Sometimes you can find IR and other brands cheaper online or from local sources. My advice is simple,you will be the one doing the buying and you have to o with what you think is best.

If you have the money on hand to buy outright, and don't mind dealing with warranty issues/post sale support on your own, buy online. If you're loyal to a tool truck, he'll generally take of any issues with loaner tools/minimal downtime. The choice is yours. The internet portal doesn't buy gas, truck maintenance, insurance, etc...

Irtools.ca can get me the 1/2", 3/8" along with the ratchet for 775$ Canadian and offers warranty. I would see if a US site exists?

Wow, this site is useless. Never said it was a tool truck. Yes, I know what tool trucks are people, I have been wrenching for a living for 20 years. I didnt ask the Snapon dealer or Mac or Matco because I know there is a hefty markup, its called business and I dont need that spelled out. I also didnt ask about a $775 bundle of tools I dont need. My tool guy is the guy at the parts store that I have a shop account with spending $8000 per month. He doesnt mark up excessively. My original question was "if the going price for this impact is $380, how are people selling them for $250?" Not a hard question, not a question requiring more info, not a question to be answered with more questions. If you dont know the answer, DONT RESPOND.

Thank you to the one person with a worthwhile response. Purchased it from Tooltopia. Paid a bit extra over some of the ebay listings, but it is comforting dealing with a US based company with a nice website. Sets my mind at ease im not getting ripped off. Cheers.

OP, the answer is 'business'. TBH, you're questions are leading and aggressively slanted...tho and you probably know that...but here it is explained.

Youre guy gets away witch charging his price because you are already emotionally attached to doing business with him (as you want to defend hime in your OP). That's legit service tho, but you pay the price for having that relationship...see rule no 1
Other guys don't know you, and cannot offer you that. But they probably can drop ship from the same supplier, and not have any sales/marketing staff to hand hold you, no brick and mortar shop down the street. That, plus maybe large scale sales...leads to lower cost...see rule No2
Amazon routinely sells at prices that would be below cost for many mom and pop-shops (ie, like 30% lower than brick and mortar vs 15% profit margins at those businesses...). You also have guys on ebay selling all manner of non-counterfit tools (but you need to be a bit more careful)...liquidations, lost freight, simple wholesale arbitrageurs...you name it.
Lastly, people like Zoro go on sale 30% off a couple of times a year.

Probably not all that into the protocol of internet forums those of us have learned to abide by to get meaningful answers over many years of navigation on the webs. Yes, ask any question on this or any other highly regarded inter forum site and you will get back a bunch of info you didn't ask for.
Part of the reason is because we have learned that people don't know how to ask the right question. And part of it is because nobody here is getting paid to do your work for you. It's up to you to sort thru the chaff. And to be nice about it while in the process.
