I also have the Sams Club Multi Mode LED shop lights in both my garage and basement. I bought the 10 pack when they had them for sale a few months back.
In my garage, all are set to the highest lumen level. In my basement I have most of them set at the highest lumen level, with a few set at the middle lumen level over the washer and dryer.
They are all controlled by light switches to turn them on and off just like regular light fixtures would be. Whatever light level you set them at via the pull chain will be the light level they come back on to when you shut them on and off via your light switch on the wall. The only way to change that is to turn the lights on and pull the chain to put the lights into the lumen level you want. Once they are set via the pull chain, that is where they will be.
I love these LED lights for the fact that they are instant on and instant brightness, no fluorescent "hum", the ease at which they can link together, and the fact that on sale they cost just $19.00 each.
My garage and basement are much better places to work now that it is much lighter in these areas. Also, the fact that they are multi mode, and you can set the brightness that you want/need for any given space/task makes them worth it to me, even though they do not have frosted lenses.
I will say that the only two issues I have with them so far is that they due tend to make a bit harsher shadow on things than the old fluorescent lights did. And if you look right into the LED's you will see little white dots for a few seconds.
But once you learn not to stare directly into them, like you learned not to stare directly into the sun on a sunny day when you were a kid, then that second issue becomes a non-issue after about a minute.
