Question about early Snap-On 3/8 Ratchet...

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anybody knows much about the F-7 ratchet by Snap-On. I am having a hard time finding information on this piece. One person stated it was the first 3/8 ratchet that Snap-On produced. Can anybody validate this? I also wondered what it's value is. I have one of them and was curious because there doesn't seem to be an overwhelming amount of information on this particular ratchet readily available on the web. Thanks for your help.

Derek

Hi Derek, welcome to the GJ.
The F-7 was Snap on's first 3/8 ratchet, mostly made in 1928-29, if it is the type that you have to push thru the socket holder to reverse the action. If it has a selector switch, it is from the very early 30s. Value would be some where between 35-125 depending on the variation you have, and what someone if willing to pay for it that day.

Thanks for your reply. I have the one at the bottom of your picture. Mine is quite a bit darker than yours. What do you use to clean them?

You are going to get us in a huge debate on cleaning tools, A rat like this, unless its very rusty, I would just leave it alone, would put a few drops of machine oil in the head, and a light coat of oil on the outside just to keep it in the condition its in.
