I found this caw hammer at a Goodwill. Handle was pretty much destroyed.
After cleaning up, I see its an Easco. From what I read, Easco was a pretty good brand and made some Craftsman tools in North Carolina.

My question is why isn't it marked USA and why are there two model numbers? Mine is as below:

No. 01 106
---16 oz--
No. 81 102

The EASCO "01 106" hammers I've found on Ebay all are marked "16 oz. USA" after the single model number.

Anybody know?

thanks

I think it might be marked with two model numbers because they could've switched to a new designation, similar to what Stanley and Black and Decker did in the late 60s. I don't think the hammer was made by Easco, but made by somebody else like Vaughan or Plumb, but I could be wrong. Easco also had the original Moore Drop Forge plant in Springfield, MA (Craftsman code V), opened the Gastonia, NC plant (Craftsman code G) you mentioned in 1978, and had a plant in Springdale, AR (Craftsman code VV) opened in 1969.

Thanks for the reply. Based on what you say, it sounds like it was made in the USA. Do you agree?
And, if so, its odd that they didn't mark it. Maybe they didn't have enough space to do so..
