Good morning folks,

Just purchased and moved into a 10yo home, built by the previous homeowner (a builder). I have a cap'd blue outlet box in the garage attic (yellow 12/2) that is marked "extra home run".

Before I spend some time on this, my idea of "home run", would be an extra dedicated breaker run from the panel (only 25 feet away).

Since I am not in the building/construction field, would anyone have a comment ?

Also, anything special with yellow vs the standard off white 12/2? The last time I bought a 250' roll of 12/2 it was only offered in one color.

Oh and I am from the east coast now living is Central Texas (dont hold it against me ):

Everything's bigger in Texas, and they put those in houses so when the Rangers play, you flip the switch and the scoreboard gives them an extra run...

Colors now are:
White - 14ga
Yellow - 12ga
Orange - 10ga
Only applies for NM-b, indoor cable, not for UF outdoor.

Home run is as you suggested, run back to breaker box. May, or may not have breaker installed.

The 12-2 romex used to be white as was the 14-2 and the 10-2. Now it's easier to tell at a glance what size is the wire.
