This is on my son's cabin we are building. The porch is part of the house. I need to vent every other space between rafters, but how should I close this up? Would you just box out a bit into the porch roof and place soffit like the rest of the eaves? The porch roof will stay as is..........no ceiling.

What kind of truss/rafter and insulation are you using in the cabin ceiling?

A traditional truss with insulation on the bottom chord would probably be better to use gable vents so you can have decent thickness over the wall since it doesn’t appear to be raised heel trusses.

Firebrick43 makes a good suggestion. Keeping insulation at same thickness to exterior sheathing is a real plus. Code gives you an R10 credit for it: 39 instead of 49 if all the way. Just make sure table vent area is greater than ridge vent area. When the high vent is larger than life, it tends to **** more air out of interior, actually making moisture problem worse.

The rafter tails sitting on the wall are 8". So accounting for the baffle will be R21, same as walls on the 12/12 pitch area up to the dormers. This area will also be getting foil radiant barrier stapled up into it as well. From there up and the whole backside of the house is a regular truss that we can fill with whatever blown in we want. We have 2 louvered power vents to install in the gables up high. The plan is to draw air up from the eave, through the attic, and out the gable ends. I've figured the whole square footage and cfm accordingly.

I played around a bit with different ideas and just decided to box an eave in the porch. My son said he'll be adding a ceiling so I guess it will look ok. I think it looks fine as-is.
