I have had nothing but issues with my 7 year old genie chain drive opener.
I have put two cards in it and the second one went out now, they are 63$
apiece and I don't want to get another but I have 4 remotes and one wall mounted combination remote. My question is : Are any other brands compatable with Genie so I would not have to buy more remotes?
Thanks for your input:headscrat

Welcome to GJ! You may have electrical issues that are causing the cards to go out. A bad ground, bad connection, arc transients, open neutral, noise, EMI, lightning spikes, high voltage, low voltage, etc. etc. You may need a good electrician or electronics technician.

the door opener is on its own grounded 15 amp circuit. I am thinking it just a mexico made circuit board

I have a Craftsman that's been problem free, unfortunately it's a chain drive. My buddy has the same model in a belt drive. It's super quiet, and no vibrations transfer into the house. What ever you decide, get a belt drive. My two cents.

I have a Craftsman chain drive installed in ~1980 that had a voltage regulator in the receiver go out at a little over 1 year (just out of warranty). I replaced the voltage regulator with a little heavier duty unit and it has been trouble free since. The drive only makes a faint hum and clicking noise that can be heard when in the garage. The door makes all the noise. Even then, it cannot be heard inside the house.

If the "Mexico made" circuit board was a big problem we would hear about them all the time. Electronic devices usually either fail quickly or live nearly forever. Mechanical components controlling them like pots and switches can wear out tho. When electronic devices fail after a few years of service there usually is an external reason.

I had troubles with a Craftsman (board) that was on when we bought the place. I replaced it with a Genie screw drive. the Genie is about 6 years now with no issues.
However-
Due to the known board issue with my old one I pluged the new one into a surge suppressor and, as I said, no problems. Coincidence or not-I don't know.

I used something similar to this- http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/28-4395&CAWELAID=220323610
