Question about High Lift Overhead Door

I have found the these forums very helpful for my overhead door conversion to high lift. (Creating head room for a new to me lift.) One question before I commit to cutting the tracks:

How far from the ceiling should the horizontal track be placed? I have a 15" radius of curved section. Most photos show the track mounted 6-8 inches below the ceiling, obviously I want to maximize headspace as much as possible, but still leave room for the torsion roller. (Which I have yet to spec out.)

Pic attached of progress so far if it helps.

Thanks in advance!

I don’t know off hand but you should be able to find online diagrams or specs. It’s all going to be based on how long your flag brackets (what holds the rollers) are. Which I believe are more or less standard depending on your radius, which you know.

I would go with a jack shaft side mount lift motor for sure and that will give even more clearance if you want a car lift in the future.

You could angle track all the way to ceiling after radius? Is that the final plan?

I’d manually open your door before you disassemble it and get on a ladder to see where the door is at its highest point during opening. Measure that distance to the top of the track and add an inch or two for safety then set it at that measurement when you move it. One other thing to check is the diameter of the new cable drum you’ll have to get and make sure it will fit too.

Safe number is bottom of the track 12" from the ceiling for a door that size. If you want to get creative, you can knock 3-4" off of that.

Thanks for all the responses! Yes, planning to go with a jack shaft opener. Pics I have seen online show aprox 8 inches below ceiling. (Estimating by counting holes in metal girders, assuming 1" on center holes.) So may wing it an go with 8 inches.
So far I've been able to leave the door in place, plan is to replace / extend track one side at a time.
