Hey guys, i know everyone raves about how well the hose clamp pliers work on the spring loaded clamps but generally everyone raves for doing smaller diameter stuff like radiator hoses and such. Do you think the hose clamp pliers would work for throttle body clamps that are spring loaded that holds the intake tube to it? Since I work at toyota, a lot of the cars use this type of way. So by knowing if these pliers would work, would save me a TONNNN of time. Pliers just are to much of a PITA especially when the clamps are the locking spring loaded type where you have to squeeze the clamp and then it locks over this tab which never seems to work. So thanks guys. Heres the type of hose clamp pliers I'm talking about.

I have these; use them everyday.... they will do the job and are the best bang for the buck around.... I was unable to find a better deal then the Craftsman! I have yet to break them; the handles leave something to be desired (cheesy push on grips) but for the price.... its a bargain! Yes, they will work for what you are doing; I originally bought them to do a water pump on a VW 1.8T. I used them on everything from small vacuum lines, intake boots, turbo intercooler pipes and coolant hoses.

Mayhew has 3 versions. The ratcheting models are nice because you don't have to rely on one big squeeze for larger clamps. Regardless any one of them are a time saver as some of those clamps can be nearly impossible to get to with vise grips.

i have the matco version of those, theyre handy!

+1 on the Matco's. I have a pair and they are one of the handiest things to have around. They make any cooling system job sooo much easier.

Mayhew has an ad in the new issue of professional distributor saying they're coming out with redesigned cable operated hose clamp pliers in May.

Those little vises have a 1/4" female square drive in the end so you can use ratchets, air ratchets, extensions, universals, etc. to tighten and loosen 'em. You wouldn't believe how handy it is to be able to slide one down through stuff on a long wobbly extension to get it on a hidden clamp. Sometimes you need a finger or a screwdriver to keep it straight on the clamp but once you get it going it's hands off. There are places that the pliers seem to work better, no tool for something as varied as hose clamp placement is going to do it all. But, I'm finding that, as I use them and get used to them, I'm reaching for the vises more and more. Pliers work better where you have to force the clamp around to help get the hose off.

The only thing I don't like about the hose clamp vises is their price. I ended up getting a couple of the large ones and smaller ones so, I could remove hoses and not have to remove the clamp and reuse it. They are handier for certain applications over others but, they won't slip off like some pliers will and get your attention by pinching your flesh. Lisle came up with a good idea with the clamps.
