Hi, I am a toyota tech and i sometimes work on jeeps for friends. I am curious what metric and standard sizes are needed.
For example on toyotas and hondas: 8,10,12,14,17,19,21,22,24
What are they for jeep?
Thanks

On my '95 jeep I had to use a 7mm to remove the electrical connectors from the alternator. You also need a E-12 torx socket to remove the starter.

I work on a 98 jeep cherokee with the inline 5 and i work on a 2002 jeep liberty sport with a 3.7L. I also work on a 2000 neon and i was hoping that it would require the same sizes as the jeep (owned by chrysler i think?). I've done front hubs on the 98 jeep and that was a 13mm 12pt.

Re: Questioon about jeep tools

That should be an inline 6 in the cherokee. You'll need a 36 for the axle nuts in addition to what has been listed. The hubs are 13mm 12 pt. A 1/2 12 pt will fit but the bolts are marked as metric on the heads. Some of the calipers are 13mm and some of the older ones are T45. The brake line bolts are T50s. Some of the suspension has T50s as well such as the upper control arm bolts.

I used a 1/2 12 pt deep socket to remove head bolts off of a I6 in a Cherokee today.

For wranglers, you will need a set of Torx bits. Seems to be a big mix of SAE and metric. Other randoms i have accumulated for my Jeep, 30mm for transfer case fill plug, 1 1/8 for pinion nut, 1 5/16 for pitman arm bolt, E12 torx socket for top bellhousing bolt, 12mm 12 pt for one of he transfer case bolts, 13mm 12pt for the hub to steering knuckle bolts.

I feel your pain Andy. I recently ditched the PB and started with a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think it's working a whole lot better.

I've gone the way of 50/50 too.

My YJ isn't bad at all, I bought it brand new, and for the first 5 or 6 years I was washing and waxing it on a regular basis...

Thanks for the picture guys.

One other question, can you use used ATF or should it be new? I would think new but I have about 4 gallons of used amsoil synthetic ATF in the garage right now.

Liberty skidplates use some of the sizes listed plus 17 and 19. E torx on the bolts that hold the spare mount, 8mm roof bar bolts, 1/2 oil pan drain, 5.5mm deep to remove the oshit handles so you can take apart interior. Most of what I do is add accessories a you can tell...

I can't back it up with empirical data, but I'd stick with new.

Thanks, I have a gallon of acetone and also a couple of quarts of new ATF so I will try it out and see how it goes! I've also read about ATF mixed with something being used for cutting fluid but can't remember what the other was.

19 or 3/4 holds that big skid plate on on the TJs and Cherokee, probably others too. 9/16 for connecting the T-case to the ******. 5/8 holds the exhaust to the big skid plate on my TJ.

Like everyone said, get a very good torx set.

make sure you have at least a 1/2 wrench and socket... The soft drain plugs hate 13mm.
