Question about moving SO toolbox...?

I just purchased a used SnapOn Classic 78 toolbox from CL. The SO website indicates the box weighs 412lbs. I know some of y'all here can probably lift that without blinking, but that's a lot of grunting for me and my buddy.

Question is: Are the drawer's easily removable and will doing so get the weight down to a manageable level (300 lbs.)?

Not sure about that box,but moving my HF boxes out of my truck and into the shop at work, this is what I did. It made quite a difference, three guys moved the 56" and 44" out of my truck and it sits pretty high. I think the 56"is said to be around 480 lbs.

The drawer's are fairly straight forward to remove with the correct tool, do a search. How many drawer's, 4-12lbs per drawer depending on size.

Take the drawers out from the top down, you may find that it is manageable at a certain point, but I would just take them all out so there is no risk of one opening up while lifting it. That is always an OH **** moment.

The newer boxes don't need a special tool to get the drawers out but you need to yank fairly hard with the plastic glide releases pressed in.

It would be immensely easier to use a trailer with a drop ramp than lifting into a pickup bed. I don't know about you but if my buddy lost grip when loading into the truck and crunched my new box, I'd probably cry...

I have a Dodge Promaster which has a really low loading height (about knee high). Wouldn't be a big deal to "flop" it in, but I still need to be able to lift it.

If you have something with a trailer hitch, the 5x9 cargo trailer with ramp from uhaul is a steal at $25/day.

I'm surprised that box only weighs slightly over 400lbs.

Taking the drawers out, especially wide drawers to move a box is a pain, and a good way to damage drawer or slides. If you have to do it, try to keep them well supported corner to corner.

I'd use a set or ramps or find more help.

I realize there are plenty of people who have these boxes at home, but at the shop, most of the guys, at least the contractors, had angle iron frames and lifting lugs on their boxes. Overhead crane loads and unloads.

I would rent a Uhaul truck and a trailer and roll it on. I wouldn't want that beautiful box to hit the ground.

5 years or so ago I bought a used krl1022 and 3 of us got it into the back of my truck. We laid a moving blanket on the floor, flipped the box up, backed the truck up to it, and rolled it in. I'm still amazed we were actually able to do it, as the other 2 guys were pretty small. Was a smokin CL deal, didn't have time to get a trailer. Don't recommend it, but it's doable.

Yeah, I can get a flatbed for $50, but then I have to add that on to the cost of the box and I won't sleep for months thinking about it. :D

How well will you sleep if that box is damaged? If you are going to do it yourself, think of all the angles that could go wrong and mitigate. There's a video clip of a dude rolling out his box down a ramp when it gets away from him. The drawers open (strap them in) causing the box to tilt and fall when it gets to the bottom of the ramp, smashing the drawers.

How much did the box cost you? What's 50?

Don't know if you moved the box yet. Usual is good. Snap on dealer for a price. I mean. After all he delivered it. Or towing company with a drag up flat bed.

I called a motorcycle towing co. They had a low, ramped enclosed trailer. $50. Done.

Thanks, all.
