Home depots got the deal right now on NM-B. I only need a 25ft 240v run so id like to use it.

Simply, Can NM-B be run through conduit? I havent heard about using it here in IL but no one Ive asked has been able to answer this.. Im thinking it can but it needs to have the ends taped for 240.

Just take a red marker and color the white wire red on the exposed section of the ends. That way someone in the future will know its not a neutral.

Note you are not allowed to do this with individual wires such as THHN that are normally pulled thru conduits. With NM its OK however.

You still need to meet conduit fill requirements when using NM-b. The diameter size of NM is figured from the widest dimension of the cable.

I figured Chicago yes, maybe crook county.. but I am the next county over. I don't believe that it should be an issue but it'd be nice if one could confirm.

your county should have web resources online to let you know what modifications they've made to the NEC and also for what work you need to pull a permit...

Permits are pretty much required when sweeping floors where im at. In fact the local village inspector is so swamped from all the codes that Ive literally given up trying to abide by all the stipulations in the permits. For example when I built my shed it had to be 10ft off the fence line on all sides and tied down with a 42" minimum ground anchor. When he came to check he looked over the fence for 2 seconds, signed off on it and walked away. It took my brother and myself a good hour each to get those ground anchors in the hard clay and rock I have in back.

My son bought a reposed house during the recession. We replaced ALL of the pluming and fixtures (only some of the drain line).

The inspector only turned on 1 faucet, flushed no toilets, but did make certain the laundry tub was bolted down and the new gas water heater, gas dryer and furnace had new shutoffs. Less than 5 minutes from knocking on the door until he left.
