Question about old Snap-On toolboxes - prices?

Hello,

I’m struggling to find right reasonable prices to sell this vintage snap on toolboxes k555 1980 and k550b 1985.

They expect me to sell under $100-200 for both. No way!

So, tell me what should I sell them? $950 for both together or what?

Conditions: wear and tore but still uses as great Just old

It’s friction sliding drawers.

I paid $900 for a KR650A and KR655B combo last year. I'd say $4-500. Others may have more experience with these.

Should be KR-555 and KR 550B, typo in your post.

Friction slides hurt value, I see quite a few of the newer (90s-early 2000’s) boxes for 700-1200. Every now and again you’ll see a few year old basic KRA for $1000.

If I was in the market I’d buy the newer boxes at the $1000 price point. Unless I wanted an older box or a collector I’d pay $400-550 for your set.

So, home mechanics. And they also want roller slides and a different configuration. So, the real competition is Harbor Freight. Unless you find someone who specifically wants an older box and is willing to make those work, it will sit for a long time. Right now in my area, there is a similar MATCO top box for $250, and it has been on CL for a while at that price. So, you have to ask yourself if you want to move them along or want top dollar. I would ask $400 and be ready to deal.

Agreed. I'd put them up for $750. Those are top quality boxes in very nice shape. They may not move right away, but I wouldn't give them away.

I had a Snap On KR 560 (friction slides) for sale earlier this year for $750. Got all sorts of lowballs. After a couple of months, I got my price.

Prices vary wildly by location. Around me, $700-900-ish.

I see a lot of guys start at $1,200. Maybe some sell for that if they hold out a long time, I don't know.

Very true. I've seen a couple of those on FB for awhile for $750 and $850. Location definitely helps dictate price.

I paid $750 for mine in 2011 with ball bearing slides.

Only to some. Those of us who for fifty years have somehow managed to survive and make a living working out of friction slide boxes just don't understand why a cheap roller bearing box is more desirable than a heavier gauge better built friction slide box. Younger guy opinions and results obviously differ.

I really like ball bearing slides, but I'll take a '70s or '80s friction slide box over a HF ball bearing slide box every time.

Personally I am cool with the friction slides, but it is a selling point if you have the rollers.
