Question about oxy/acetylene torch...

I bought this set at an estate auction for $130, oxygen is empty and acetylene has some in it. My question is, when i open up my acetylene tank with the regulator CLOSED, the output gauge maxes out and it just pours out the tip. Are these regs hooked up wrong? Or is it a bad reg? This is how they were when i got them. Any input would be appreciated, Thanks 2012-07-18_12-31-07_593.jpg

What do you mean by "CLOSED"? You should unscrew the handle until it's almost falling out. If the output gauge jumps when you open the tank, then your regulator needs repair.

Since you need a refill on the Oxy anyways I would recommend setup up to the next size bottle.

You go through that a lot faster then Act especially when cutting.

DO NOT USE ANY OIL ON THE REGULATORS, OR TOOLS OR RAGS THAT HAVE OIL ON THEM!!! I also wash my hands before using my torches. Oxygen, obviously, is an oxidizer. Pure oxygen mixed with oil makes a violent and very hot fire.
