Arrived on this forum while researching epoxy coatings for my 1969 built garage floor. My research lead me to finalize on a PolyUrea based coating since part of the garage gets a lot of sun through the afternoon. Its 27'x25' three car garage. The concrete has some sort of paint on it (not a full coating, based on the thickness) and is in decent condition, with a few small cracks running through it.
I plan to fill the cracks, grind with a diamond brush and acid etch, before applying the PolyUrea coatings. Here comes my questions...
While talking to a Benjamin Moore rep about their Corotech V530/V531, they said PolyUrea does not require a primer but their epoxy coating does. Is that correct? When I tried to research on that topic on the forum, I did not see any examples of folks using a primer for the PolyUrea coatings, while there were many who used it for epoxy coatings.
In fact the BM rep kept pushing me to go with their epoxy system V155/V430/V500 which they said is DIY friendly. When I asked what specifically, he said its because the Polyurea should only be applied with a squeegee and not a roller like the epoxy. Not sure why that would make it too hard for a DIY.
Any thoughts and advice would help. TIA
TLDR: Do I need a primer coat for a PolyUrea Coating? Does a PolyUrea coating "need" to be applied with a squeegee or can it be rolled out with a paint roller?
