Except for where my heavy machinery is, should I run the tiles wall to wall, or should I run them to the edge of my work benches and smaller tooling?
Thanks!

You typically would run them wall to wall. If you have cabinets installed, treat the base of the cabinet like you would a wall. Remember your expansion gaps AND if you are installing them under permanent heavy objects you need to make absolute certain you let them bake out in the sun first

Can we define "heavy objects" I'm ordering today and assuming it will be here in about a week. Temp is anywhere from 15-30 degrees and I'm keeping the tiles outside under a tarp. Even with leaving the proper expansion gape, is a 500 lbs work bench going to keep the tiles from expanding when they should?

I have my Racedeck tiles under my 4-post lift, my scissor jack, my lathe, my mill, basically wall to wall.

The only place I have any expension is when I leave the man door in the afternoon, the full sun makes them bubble up a little. Does not happen when I leave the main garage door open, I guess because the 4-post is there.

/\ I've had RaceDeck FreeFlow tiles in two garages at this point and have never had any issues with bubbling or expansion etc.... FYI.

I got samples of the floor tiles from Racedeck and I have to say it looks good. Anyone here in the Atlanta area who has a Racedeck floor they would be willing to let me (and my wife) look at? I'd like to see an actual installation if possible.

Thanks

I have RaceDeck wall to wall and under some heavy items; cabinets, workbench etc. I live in Florida and have north facing garage doors. Have the required gap and Not an inkling of movement, bowing etc.

I've had the Racedeck floor in my garage for about 3 years now and I have everything including the 4 post lift on them with no problems. However I did have the problem of the part that is near the edge expanding if it is in hot sun.
The people at Racedeck were nice enough to send me some freeflow tiles to place along the sun exposed edge which helps the problem. Actually, I'm thinking of replacing the first two courses entirely with freeflow to solve the problem completely.

considering RD for my flooring... exposure to full sun causes bubbling of the tile surface is concerning..

Not bubbling of the surface of the tiles--the whole floor can develop a bow if it heats up enough and there is something in the way of the tiles expanding.

I have this same issue when I leave the garage doors open and the tiles are left in the direct sunlight in the summer. Areas in the sun where there is a large distance between heavy objects and/or the walls will expand and bow when the tiles run out of room to expand further.

It looks odd but it doesn't happen much and it doesn't cause any problems.

Exploring options for my new garage floor. So what happens if you spill a liquid on this flooring? Will it penetrate between the joints and end up underneath the tiles?

It definitely can go through. Liquids have there way of finding there way though many floorings at the weakest point... The joint... where it butts the wall.... etc.

PVC tile it happens less but there are other downsides. Everything is a tradeoff. Drop me a PM with how you use your garage and we can go from there...

My Racedeck floor has a row of black tiles around the outside, which I like. The only problem, if you want to call it a problem, is when the overhead door is open in the Summer and the sun beats down on the black tiles. The outside row of tiles, being black, absorb more of the sun's rays and consequently they tend to expand more than the row of red tiles right next to it. This causes a little bucking of the black tiles. But when it gets hot out I mostly leave the overhead door closed and turn on the air-conditioning so it isn't an issue.

My lathe and my mill are sitting on the tiles and I have no issue at all with it. As far as liquids go, if I spill any oil or anything I wipe it up right away with paper towels to get most of it up, then I use a cotton cloth to get the rest up. But I don't park the cars in the garage so I don't get water, snow or ice, on the floor. The only time the cars are in the garage is when I am doing some work on one of them and that doesn't happen very often these days. I just use it for a woodworking shop and occasionally I will do a job with the lathe or mill.
