Question about replacement windows

I just installed number one of five and everything went smooth. Although the directions say install the sill adapter prior to putting the window in I opted for after so I could use some expansion foam in the void.Now I can't snap it into place there's gotta be a secret. Any help would be appreciated.

There's no way of saying this without sounding like an A-hole, but being a guy that doesn't have much in the way of carpentry skills, I would have followed the instructions to the letter. Was doing what you did a listed option? I'm not looking to insult or offend, just trying to get a little more insight...

Sometimes the order of window parts can be the difference between water shedding properly, out of the structure and down the outside of the vapor barrier...and not. Water backing up into the framing members. Just saying.
