Question about repurposing an existing 240V circuit

Greetings folks.

Previous owners had a hot-tub/spa in an enclosed porch. There is a 50A GFCI breaker box using 6-3 w/ground in flex conduit. I'm guessing the neutral wire is for 120V to the control box & lighting. If possible, we'd like to remove the spa, then use the circuit to run to an EV level-2 charger. The charger I'm looking at is L1/L2/Gnd only. Can the existing line from the box to the spa be used (terminating or capping the neutral), or do we just get a length of 6-3 w/o ground? Obviously, the job is going to be done by a licensed electrician, I'm just hoping we can use as much of what's there already.

You can use the existing 6-3 and just cap off the unused neutral.

BTW, a "6-3 w/o ground" (I'm assuming you meant 6-3 w/o neutral) is a 6-2 cable (2 conductors, not including the ground wire). 6-3 has 3 conductors, not including the ground wire.

Thanks for the info, and the clarification. Yes, that is what I meant. Don't know why my brain went that way...

Appreciate it, sir!

I read somewhere that level 2 chargers don't actually use the neutral wire (although it may have on in the 14-50 plug and wiring from charger). Can one run 6-2 with ground wire instead of 6-3 with ground into a 14-50 plug?

where is the charger outlet going? if its outdoors and/or the wire has to run outdoors or underground, you will need to use a different cable than NM-b as its not permitted outdoors or underground even in conduit

None that I have wired used a neutral.
You can wire a charger with 6-3 cordage (includes grd wire) to the plug.
A NEMA 14-50 receptacle does however need the neutral run to it for any other random load that could be plugged into it.
