I plan on building one this summer but my HOA limits me to 180 Sq ft so my max I can go is 10x18. Should I go with another size or do you really waste that much lumber with an odd size. On the other hand I have always heard build things as big as you can. Another question is what should I use on the outside I have been looking at smartside not sure what thickness to use.

What are the height restrictions because that adds cubic foot space as much as the foundation does square foot. My motorcycle shed is in back yard corner of driveway and alley. Tall Barn style Tuff Shed plan that I put storage loft in the top of. The taller the shed, the more overhead storage. A modified one car garage door rolls up on driveway side for bike entry, and man door on opposite end in back yard for yard stuff. Very handy.

was2 Not sure of any height limits Im sure they wont let me build a two story. Planning on going with eight foot walls. The shed will house the normal stuff plus my two daughters outdoor toys and the extra parts for my Monte Carlo including a a frame on its side and an extra big block.

I think the 12X14 would make a better "workable" area- that 10' seems narrow.
I'd go 9' (104-5/8 studs) walls-
Do a gambrel roof
Use half the depth (7') for loft space.
Add dormers on each side of vaulted space for natural light and no prying eyes.

I'd want to side it with whatever would be complimentary to the house.

Check your height limits. A barn style (Gambrel) roof gets the most volume.

Another idea. Add on to the existing primary structure. A lot less limitations as far as size. Lot size and setbacks may limit you.

Make sure that the city/county rules are the same as what the HOA is saying.
Around here 120 sq/ft is the limit with the city before you get banged for property taxes and reassessment. HOA is a totally different deal. Make sure!:dunno:

The city says you can go to 200 sq ft after that you need a footer and so on. If the weather is nice tomarrow I will go for a walk and look to see what others have built. Next week I will call the HOA about height limits.
