Hi guys.

I have a quetion regarding Snap-on dealers and their trucks. I work in Toronto, Onatrio and or shop recently moved across town (by about 25 miles.) My old dealer had an amazing truck. It was stacked to the roof with everything you could ever ask for (he never said no i dont have that). Everything we kept neat and on display.

Now the dealer for my new location is a different story. The truck is a mess..with ZERO stock on anything. Ratchets on the sheft and the roof. Screwdriver sets on both sides of the truck etc.

My questtion: Once the dealers have their truck up and running do they not have to keep a set amount of inventory on the truck? Do they not have to keep the truck presentable? Or is that totally up to them how the wish to run things? I know the money for the tools has to come out of their pocket up front...i just figured Snap-on head offcie would have a set way of representing the company.

Ha thats it...a small rant this morning becuse my dealer said no to 3 of the things i asked for (all common hand tools).

Chris

My truck does not look so NEAT all of the time. My customers dig through my truck like there is gold on the bottom of the shelf.
There are lots of customers on the air fields I go to and not everyone buys but they sure tear my truck to pieces.
I try and keep everything I can on the truck so I do not have to order stuff. But wheneveryone uses the same tools it is hard to keep a lot of stuff in stock. My route is mixed up with all sorts of shop types. I have everything but a transmission shop in my route.
We do not have to keep an inventory level, but things will not be good for you if you do not keep a good pile going.
We do not have to keep the trucks spotless. No feather dusters allowed...... But it helps to keep it tidy and get the trash out of the isle and find somewhere to dump the cardboard. If I clean my truck too good the guys think that I have no business and that I am going out of business. If someone has a really clean truck they either have no family ( or do not spend any time with them ) or not enough customers to keep them busy.

Aint that the truth. My truck is pretty cluttered and disorganized right now but I have been BUSY!

About the only thing I can find on my guys truck are the ratchets and the overhead pliers. Everything else is kind of a cluster f**k. I don't know how and the hell he knows where everything is, but he does.

my uncles trailer was like that ( 30 ft car hauler ) he had so much on there he would get lost. I know I did. But he switched back into a truck and the shelves are very full but it looks good.
might say something to him about making the truck look good.
we do not have to keep a certian amount, but it throws up red flags when we do not purchase anything.

your customers are allowed to rifle through your shelves looking for what they want? I figure if I started moving things around and digging on my guy's rig I'd get asked to leave!! He's a nice guy but he seems a little paranoid. I guess it because I'm still a relatively new customer. I'd bet theft can get pretty bad if the driver isn't careful. In saying that, his truck seems fairly well stocked with all the common stuff and repair items (screwdriver shafts, ratchet repair kits, etc) so I can't complain.
