Question about transformers

I sometimes get junk form a plant my son works at. Sometimes the stuff they throw away is brand new but it's been sitting around on a shelf for awhile and one day they clean out a section and everything goes into the dumpster. Every now and then we find out what is about to happen and if we ask they will hold off dumping the pallets into the dumpster if I can get there fast enough with a trailer to haul the junk out. You never know what in the pallets until you get home and unload it. You wouldn't believe the stuff they throw away.

Anyway....I happened to get a trailer load of stuff the other day and I scored a nice high pressure hose reel for 3/4" to 1" hose. I looked up the CoxReels SLPL 575 on the net and those things are anywhere from $600 to $800 new and this one looks almost new. I also got a couple transformers and I was wondering what they might be good for.

They are the one here at this link. http://products.geindustrial.com/In...=SPECPAGE&CATALOG=ED&PRODUCT_NUMBER=9T51B0188

I looked these up and they are quite expensive also and was wondering what I could use them for. I see they have a primary voltage of 277v which I don't have but what I was wondering was what would happen if you run 220v to the transformer other than a meltdown or burning the building down.

If u hookup 240v to the primary, then the secondary will give u a lower voltage than 120/240v....nothing will burn down....

Seeing as u dont have 480y/277v service and the transformer is only .5Kva, u cant use it for anything.

This transformer is good for control circuits and not much else since its only .5Kva = 2a @ 240v...

Sell it and move on...

I agree, no real use except on 277vac circuits (which is typically used for lighting in commercial buildings.)

Category: General Purpose
Phase: Single
Primary Voltage: 277
Secondary Voltage: 120/240
KVA: 0.5KVA
Coil Material: Copper
Enclosure Rating: NEMA 3R (outdoor use)

That's what I was thinking but thought I would ask. I wonder what a good start price on e-bay would be?
