Question about transporting a compressor

Hi there. I'm hoping to get some expert advice here. I'm looking at a used compressor on craigslist. It's a 60 gallon vertical tank two stage. I have a pickup truck that I will use to move it if I buy it. It will be a long ride in below freezing weather. I'll have to turn it on its side to move it. Will doing this cause any problems? Is there anything special I need to do to prepare it for transportation other than strapping it down nice and tight?

Thanks,
Chuck

I'd drain any moisture from the tank and also drain the pump's oil. Transporting it horizontal won't be a problem.

Just make sure you check the motor, belt, pump alignment once you get it to the destination.

I would drain any water from the tank and drain the oil from the compressor since it's going to be turned on it's side.

I'd do the same as both of these guys. But that's JMO. Can't imagine it would hurt it by laying on its side. Why do you need to lay it on its side? Why can't you keep it upright?

It's pretty darn tall and it's a long trip. I'd just be much more comfortable with it laying down (low center of gravity and all...)

I've moved a couple and always just take the pump and motor off and move it in three pieces. That avoids the worry drops or roll overs caused by it being top heavy.
