Good morning.

U have a question: Walker 740 jack is advertised as "low lifting point 5", Raise under power 12", max Ht 17"

I am a little confused about this: so it means that lowest it can go is 5", you can raise it up to 12" (not sure what they mean under power - meaning with the car weight on?) and can go as high as 17" without the car weight?

Can somebody explain this to me?

... I see them once in a while for sale. Thinking about getting one for 2019 highlander (curb weight 4464lb - this 5000lb jack might lift it). Clearance of highlander is 8" (googled it, not checked).
If anybody uses them regularly - is it nice or complete PITA to use a mechanical jack for basic things (changing/rotating tires, etc...)

P.S. I got the image from KMinAF post who restored one a while back - thank you for the ad!!!

ThanksWalker740Ad.jpg

There are very practical reasons the only place you will see a mechanical jack at an automotive repair business is hanging on the wall.

Still, a 5000lb mechanical will lift your entire Highlander off the ground of you can get it to balance.

If you've used a hi-lift or backed down a come along, it's gonna be like that.
The positioning versatility of hydraulic can come in really handy sometimes.

The low height is 5 inches with a stroke of 12 inches to reach a total of 17, with or without weight. It will lift your vehicle fine, your not trying to lift the whole thing. Just not practical for basic maintenance with an overall length of close to 55" and close to 150 pounds.

I have a roll- a -car and its control is just as good as a hydraulic one. You can go up or down one click at a time. I had no problem lifting my 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood Broham or 1977 Chrysler Newport. The long reach is good to get under big cars or the rear end meatball.

I like my long frame Walker for getting under the pumpkin of my pickup.
