Need help connecting 3 stranded 6 awg wires together for a 240 volt circuit.

I can't find wire nuts big enough to fit over this connection.

What kind of connectors do I need?

They make wirenuts for the larger #6 conductors but....

For the best trouble free connection on #6's, I always used a split bolt connector (old Kearney) torqued it good and tight then covered it with rubber tape and followed on top of that, with Scotch 66 vinyl electrical tape. jmo

there is no wirenut rated for connecting any number of 6AWG wires if i recall. You can get them in the blues, but they are not rated for the current.

I would use a crimp-on style terminal like you see on the starter end of a cars starter cable then bolt the 3 terminals together and insulate with high voltage tape.

A split-bolt/Kearney is not designed for 3 conductors, since most people lack the proper tooling to crimp large connectors, and this does apply to smaller ones too, a Polaris type is the only choice as no special tooling is needed.

Ilsco Cleartaps, which are similar to the Polaris Connectors, are what we always use. The split bolts are the cheaper option, but a cleartap will give you a better connection and they're alot easier to use than split bolts.

Need help connecting 3 stranded 6 awg wires together for a 240 volt circuit.

What kind of connectors do I need?

Do you actually need to attach three #6 wires together or are you splicing a three wire circuit as you would when extending the #6 wires to a subpanel?

Easy to find wirenuts or splice blocks for 2-#6 connectors but for a triple connection you need something better like those polaris style connectors. When you go to a hardware store they will think you're nuts asking for a polaris connector so be sure you know what they look like and go to their split bolt area.

I was able to find a polaris connector of a different brand for like 25$ each and that connector only took two #6 wires.

In my opinion, wirenuts for this size of conductor are the wrong thing to use. They just don't make a good enough connection.

I am attaching 3 #6 wires together for each connection (Line 1, Line 2, Ground) inside of a 6 inch junction box.

I will post pics up when I finish. Thanks for all of the replies!

Here are pics of the Polaris connectors and their final destination.

Thanks for the help!
