Question about wiring on a (somewhat) older Craftsman compressor

This is just a follow on from my other post. Long story short this compressor motor is wired for 220. The motor is marked 230 volts but I have read that they can be wired for 110 pretty easily (if in fact that this is one of those dual voltage motors). Looking under the cover on the motor it looks like a terminal has been desoldered and re-soldered onto another spot on the circuit board. If you look at the black wire terminal it is much cleaner than the white wire so I'm thinking that it may have been moved.

Anyone have a similar compressor that can check their wiring please please?

That motor isn't a dual voltage motor. If it was, it would show 115/230 on the nameplate. As this one shows only 230v, it can't be wired for 120. You have a 4HP motor which draws 3000w, even if it could be wired for 120, you would still have to install a new outlet with 10/2 and a 30A breaker.

You will typically only see dual voltage motors 3HP and less gear for the simple fact that past that, you are over the capacity of a standard 15 or 20 amp household circuit. I say typically because Big Red / Snappy still has a 5HP dual voltage compressor, but again it draws 30+A on 120v.

Awesome thanks for the info. I was planning on installing a 220 line out in the garage this will speed it up.
