Dumb question probably. I see the guys on the hot rod tv shows using these little air powered sander/grinders with about a 2” diameter disc/wheel. Looks very handy in tight quarters. I haven’t found anything in the stores that looks just like what they’re using. Does anyone know exactly what they are? And where I can get one?

Definitely right angle, pistol grip, but not orbital. Small. Almost a die grinder but right angle with a small sanding pad. I just don’t want to buy something and find out it’s not what I thought. I’m bad about pulling the trigger on Amazon too quickly.

OP, are you referring to the cut-off wheels like Robby321's link has?

Or the surface prep pads (come in 1", 2" and 3"? Can be sander paper, sctochbrite, bristle, flap wheels, etc

More like the surface prep. Or a disc you would use to grind a **** weld smooth on a body patch panel. I generally use a 4” electric angle grinder with an abrasive flapper wheel but it’s often overkill and not good in tight places.

Bob, I’m confident that’s what I had in mind. Air angle die grinder with 1/4” chuck and the roloc surface prep attachments. Thanks a bunch.

I've got about twenty of these right angle die grinders. Many Grizzley, some Campbell-Hausfeld and a couple of I-R. They are great, but, if you've got the cash the recently introduced Milwaukee M12 right angle die grinder is the absolute bomb. Cordless is the way to go especially if you, like me, have about a million M12 batteries laying around the shop.

I get the harbor freight right angle grinders. They're like $15 each. I have one for every attachment I use often. Haven't had one break on me yet and I use them pretty hard. There's no bling factor, but after your hand wears the lettering off the decal, no one is the wiser lol

I do but over half of them are dead, I quality pneumatic tool will last a long time, much longer than any battery.

I’m going to buy one this weekend and try it out. I’ve never had a good air compressor until now. Bought a Dewalt 60 gal 2 stage 175 psi and it’s amazing how much better it is than my old Craftsman pull around 30 gal. Never had much use for air tools, until now.

The 2" die grinders I have are by far the most versatile tool in my toolbox. They sharpen, shape, grind, polish, deburr and cut. Keep it oiled and even the cheap ones will last for years.

Just be sure to pay attention to which kind of Roloc type attachment you buy.

The backing pad needs to match the pad, ie most common -TR (male mount on pad) or TSM (female mount on pad).

Great tool, enjoy. Quality ones are great if you are doing it all day everyday, but the cheap ones get the job done too.

Make sure you get a regulator for your air line. If you are running 3/8” hose about 25’ long, try setting it at 120psi, or 130 for a 50’ hose. That way you will get around 90psi at the tool with the trigger pulled. You will want to regulate down from the 145/175psi kick on kick off pressure of that compressor. Too much air pressure in high speed tools really shortens the life of them in my opinion.

Also, pick up some air tool oil and put a a couple drips of oil in the air inlet before using the tool. A little air tool oil goes a long ways, and will keep your tools running for a long time.

Similar to you, Dave, I saw it being used, and thought I’d try it out to see how I like it. I used the HF one for a couple of years, and passed it along to my daughter when I got the new one.

I just upgraded mine from a HF unit to an Air Cat. AIRCAT 6280 .7 Hp Composite Angle Die Grinder with Spindle Lock, Small, Red https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1N64V2/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Lots more power, and a joy to use.

I buy the Roloc discs from Amazon.
