I'm not a "guru" but mine does have a carry tray.

Yes it was supposed to come with a tray. Actually I think that box was only sold as an entire kit, tools and all. Or at least that is how it is shown in the catalog. Very late 40's to very early 50's I think more like 50 to 53 to be specific. The drop front craftsman boxes are pretty obscure. Great boxes for $35 total
