Boys were home from school for Thanksgiving Break.
Great to have them home for sure. We were playing pool and one of the balls went flying off the table and it chipped a porcelain tile. The balls have flown before but no damage until now, it cracked in the corner.
Tonight I will grind out the grout around the tile with an orbital multi-tool with a grout removal tool, chip out the tile, remove the mortar below clean it up, wipe it down and reset the tile. I have extra so that is easy.
The grout I used was epoxy and it was my first time with it and I made a big job by not removing the haze quick enough. This one time will be a cake walk.
question / Problems are:
1. I need one tile worth of chocolate epoxy grout and all I can find is pails. Stuff is not inexpensive and has a very limited shelf life. Is all epoxy grout sold RTU or is there a powdered add water variant?
2. I have the 1/2 notched trowel, I plan on back buttering the tile and leveling the tile. Since its only one, I will line up by hand. What should I use as Motar for a 1 tile repair? Is the RTU ok or should I buy a bag and mix?
Any tips, this is my first time doing this type of repair.
Thanks,
Jeff
