Question for carpenters on roll up door

We have two barn doors on our backyard barn, and we've decided that we'd like a roll up door. We bought one at Menard's before the prices went up, but its 6' 2 1/2" wide and 7' tall. The barn doors are 5' wide and 6' tall. To get a 5' x 6' roll up door from another company would cost the same price but the shipping would double the price. I've taken pictures of the outside and inside of the barn. A friend of mine would help me if he ever got the time, plus he lives 40 minutes away which doesn't help matters. He suggested cutting off 6" of the rails to clear the ceiling which would work, then we would cut the wall to make the opening.

My newest thought is to mount the door to the inside of the wall, but don't cut the wall to a larger opening, just use the 5' x 6' opening so the outside still looks the same (without the barn doors, of course. The decorations could remain, but the door trim would be changed from 2x4's to 1x4's trimmed out. The inside wall would have the door covering about ~1' which wouldn't be a problem. The green tape on the wall is where the new stud would go, and the green tape on the top plate is where the top of the channel would be if it wasn't cut. The bottom of the bottom green tape is the 6' mark.

Think it would work?

With that very minimal framing, I'd extend the opening to the correct size and use a real header with jacks.
As far as I've ever seen, this type of door is meant to mount inside of the wall.
In Illinois you do get snow correct?
At very minimum use a pair of 2x6's for you header and use the cut out sheathing in between the two layers to achieve a 31/2" header thickness.
"Jacks" are a vertical 2x4 that support each side of the header, the header sits on them on each side.
It's a simple job but from your questions, getting your buddy to help you is probably a smart move.

Well, I tackled the roll up door on the backyard barn. The instructions that came with the door didn't give the dimensions for the opening, so I downloaded a drawing from the internet and went from there. It turned out pretty well, and my wife helped me lift the door into place. I'm planning on priming the trim today and maybe getting it painted, then get the weather strip put up. I'll have to move the lock to the inside so it doesn't tear up the w/s as it goes up and down. I cut off six inches of the channels to give the roll more head clearance.

Thanks for all the replies. I've gone as far as I can on it. My buddy said he wants to make a threshold for it for me, but he has to come over to measure, then use his table saw because he's used to using it. I can wait. I removed the outside latch/lock as it will interfere with the weatherstrip, but won't remount it on the inside until he makes the threshold as it will raise the door. I've already cut six inches off the channels to give more headroom for the roll. Here's a pic of the final paint and a pic of the inside with the door up.
